Edit document

Users can edit and change objects that are not saved as IMiS objects (i.e. MS Word document).

From release 3, IMiS allowed also other types of documents (not only images) to be stored on IMiS/ARC server with Import files (or Import attachments) feature. But beside viewing these documents, users can also edit and change them with Edit document function. Second level of pop-up menu contains list of all objects that were not created as IMiS type documents. In the picture above there are 4 such objects. After selecting object, it is opened in its host application that is selected by Operating system's file extension associations. File extension is retrieved from list of allowed document types in IMiS Document Types Administration - see IMiS Document Types Administration for more details.

So for example if user would select IMiS errors reference in the example above, Microsoft Word application (if that is application associated with DOC extension on users OS) would open with Report document. Notes client is "freezed" until user closes MS Word. After user saves and closes MS Word, document is updated on storage server and focus is set back to Notes client.

There is one limitation with Edit document function. For this function to work properly, host application for selected document must not be opened before launching Edit document. And also after saving changes, host application has to be closed for Notes client to get focus back. If host application is already opened when users select Edit document, the following warning will appear (user will not be able to save changes back to server, but he will still be able to view document):

Administrator could prevent this operation with appropriate Restrictions settings (see Restrictions Settings for more details).
