Setting IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View application language

Case: IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View applications comes with several different language translations of default English version: Slovenian, Croatian, Macedonian, Hungarian and German. This article shows behind the scene of what is happening on application run and which language is used.

IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View applications have a built-in mechanism for loading translations from language resource library when the application starts. Language resource libraries have the same name as the application executable and must be present on the same directory as the application. Currently the following translations for IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View applications are available:

Regional settingsLanguage resource library extension
Bosnian (Latin, Bosnia and Herzegovina)bsb
Croatian (Bosnia and Herzegovina)hrv
Croatian (Croatia)hrb
Macedonian (North Macedonia)mki
German (Austria)dea
German (Germany)deu
German (Liechtenstein)dec
German (Luxembourg)del
German (Switzerland)des
Hungarian (Hungary)hun
Slovenian (Slovenia)slv

Note that if you are interested in translating IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View applications to your language you can send a request to support@imis.si and we will provide you with the original English resources you can translate and return to us and we will add the new translation with the next release.

When the application starts it attempts to load resources in the following order:
1. resource library matching the "locale override"
2. resource library matching the "default" locale
3. using original application resources

You can override "default" language with one of the available language translations of the IMiS/Scan or IMiS/View application with a "locale override" registry string entry.

The entry consists of the application full path as registry value name and a language code that matches the resource library file extension as registry value data.

The locale override can be placed under one of the following registry keys that are checked by the application in the order they are listed below.

IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View version 10.1.2010 or older:

i. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CodeGear\Locales
ii. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CodeGear\Locales

IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View version 10.2.2110 and later:

i. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Embarcadero\Locales
ii. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Embarcadero\Locales
iii. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CodeGear\Locales
iv. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CodeGear\Locales

If no such "locale override" registry entry is found or the resource library file matching the entry registry value data does not exist, then the application is looking for a resource library file matching the "default" locale. What is"default" locale for the application depends on the version of the application.

IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View version 10.1.2010 or older:

The "default" locale is the default locale of the user which is specified on the Formats tab of the Control Panel Region settings. User can switch from one resource library to another by changing user default locale.

IMiS/Scan and IMiS/View version 10.2.2110 and later:

The "default" locale is the user interface language of the operating system. It can not be changed without installing a new operating system or installing a multilingual operating system.

Finally, if there is no resource library file matching "default" locale, than the original application resources are used which are in "English" language.
