Enabling HTTPS with self-signed certificate in Firefox browser

Product:IMiS/wScan
Release:1.6.2010
Date:09/25/2020

Case: When you configure IMiS/wScan to use HTTPS connection to IMiS/Capture Service using a self-signed certificate (see Database 'IMiS Knowledge database', View 'All Documents', Document 'Configuring HTTPS in IMiS/wScan and Samples' Configuring HTTPS in IMiS/wScan and Samples) you might need to perform several steps on first access to the site to accept the certificate and allow free access to the site. Below are the steps you might need to perform on Firefox browser.

Description:

First, you need to enable access on HTTPS port. When using default port 5443, enter "https://localhost:5443" in browser's address bar, otherwise use appropriate port. When Firefox loads page "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead", click on "Advanced..." button.

The page will be extended to show additional explanation to the security risk. Select "Accept the Risk and Continue" button.

After you have accepted the risk for HTTPS port, IMiS/wScan initial site will be loaded. But you are not done yet.

IMiS/wScan also uses WebSocket to communicate with IMiS/Capture Service. WebSocket port is defined as HTTPS port + 1.

Enter "https://localhost:5444" in browser's address bar when using default port otherwise use appropriate port.

The page will be extended to show additional explanation to the security risk. Select "Accept the Risk and Continue" button.

After you have accepted the risk for WebSocket port you have successfully enabled the use of HTTPS in Firefox browser.

Return to initial site and start using IMiS/wScan and IMiS/wScan Samples over HTTPS.
