Digital signature
This topic explains how you can digitally sign a document in IMiS client with or without a stamp.
Digital signature is used to authenticate digital documents by using computer cryptography. Digital signatures help to establish the following assurances:
- Authenticity The digital signature helps to assure that the signer is who he or she claims to be.
- Integrity The digital signature helps to assure that the content has not been changed or tampered with since it was digitally signed.
- Non-repudiation The digital signature helps to prove to all parties the origin of the signed content. "Repudiation" refers to the act of a signer's denying any association with the signed content.
If a document is changed after it is signed, the signature is invalidated.
To make these assurances, the content creator must digitally sign the content by using a signature that satisfies the following criteria:
- The certificate associated with the digital signature is current (not expired).
- The signing person or organization, known as the publisher, is trusted.
- The certificate associated with the digital signature is issued to the signing publisher by a reputable certificate authority (CA).
There are two different ways you can use digital signatures to sign documents. You can either: add visible signature stamp to a document or add an invisible digital signature to a document.
To add visible digital signature in IMiS client:
- Find a suitable page in document where you want to put your signature.
- On Sign tab, in the Signature group on right panel, do the following:
- select your Certificate which will be used for signing the document
- select Image which will be used as ink signature, optionally fill Reason and Comment input box
- select the Components of visible signature (description, image, reason, comment)
- click Sign button and components of visual signature will be put on the current page
- Position visible signature on desire location on page. You can also adjust height and width of signature.
- You can save and close the document or continue working on it.
Actual signing will be performed on document save.
Position and the predefined components of the visual signature can be saved for later use by clicking Save button.
There are two ways to add invisible digital signature in IMiS client:
1. Automatic signing on every document save
2. Manually mark each document to be signed on document save
Sign document on every save:
- Open Preferences window and select Signature tab
- Select Always sign document on save check box
- Select Certificate you want to use for signing
- Click OK button to close preference window
Now when document is saved it is also signed.
Manually sign document:
- On Sign tab, in the Signature group on right panel, do the following:
- select your certificate which will be used for signing the document
- deselect all the components of signature (description, image, reason, comment)
- click Sign button and document will be marked for signing
Actual signing will be performed on document save.
If you do not want to sign the document just remove signature with Remove signature button .
