Configuring volumes
IMiS/ARChive stores objects on logical units called VOLUMES. Volumes are usually partitions, directories, network shared volumes, other IMiS/ARChive HSM levels, optical devices, etc. When deciding on which volume should be used in a specific HSM level, administrator should familiarize with HSM technology and how to properly configure it to serve its purpose (see Hierarchical Storage Management, Configuring profiles, other internet resources).
The idea behind volumes is the following: Each volume by itself is a storage unit which is bind to ONE level of ONE profile. By this profile can include large amount of space in a single HSM level. Volumes cannot be shared between levels and/or profiles. See notes on how to add, delete or modify volumes in following documentation.
