Using IMiS/Scan with IBM Domino Document Manager Enabler ver. 7.0.0.0

Product:IMiS/Scan, Domino.Doc
Release:4.x, 5.x
Date:03/14/2006

Case: With introduction of IBM Domino Document Manager Enabler version 7.0.0.0, IMiS/Scan has issues handling TIF and/or PDF documents stored on IBM Domino Document Manager Server (formally Domino.Doc) due to architectural change in Enabler. All edits of documents stored on IBM Domino Document Manager Server are checked-in as .tmp and are from there on unreadable by IMiS/Scan.

Its is currently suggested to continue using Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler rel. 6.5.1 on the client side if you're using IMiS/Scan. Release of the Server side software is irrelevant and can be either 6.x or 7.x.

The issue was categorized as a BUG in IBM Domino Document Manager Enabler by IBM Quality Assurance and is pending a resolution (IBM SPR: GFLY6PLUCU).

Description:

Initial check-in procedure works OK on either TIF or PDF documents. Any latter edits by IMiS/Scan break the file type of the checked-in document which becomes .tmp document.

This has to do with architectural change in IBM Domino Document Manager Enabler rel. 7.0.0.0 which relies on registered and predefined ODMA applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Lotus WordPro, Lotus 123, ...). These have their default file type extension registered in Windows Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\ODMA and these extensions are then used to determine the checked-out and check-in file type. In Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler versions 6.51 and earlier the Document Type was used to determine the file extension.

Workaround:
With the patch described below you'll be able to use IMiS/Scan for TIF file type only! There is currently no way to handle both TIFs and PDFs at the same time with IBM Domino Document Manager rel 7.0.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. 256986 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/EN-US/) Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

Merge this file in your registry: Register.IMiS.Imaging.For.Domino.Doc.Enabler.7.0.reg

OR

1. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\ODMA with regedit.exe or regedt32.exe.
2. Add Subkey IMiS Imaging under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\ODMA
3. Add Subkey Extension under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\ODMA\IMiS Imaging
4. Set the Default value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler\ODMA\IMiS Imaging\Extension to tif
5. Close regedit.exe or regedt32.exe

Suggestion:
Imaging Systems suggest using Domino.Doc Desktop Enabler rel 6.51 on stations using IMiS/Scan until further notice. The issue described above has already been submitted to IBM QA and we await their response.
