New features & functions of IMiS/Net Server

Product:IMiS/Net
Release:V4.1
Date:04/17/2004

Case: IMiS/Net new features

Description:

- Improved Storage Server Access and Throughput Benchmarks (*80% improvement in parallel access, 30% improvement in sequential access)
Due to complete redesign of communication layer between IMiS/Net and IMiS/ARChive Storage Server, speed and system response times dramatically improved compared to 3.x versions. IMiS/Net can now access IMiS/ARChives with multiple parallel sessions in a multi-user environment such as web server protocol and similar. Session spawning is done in the background by IMiS/Net module itself taking into account the load on object retrieval and request queue length. When used in sequential mode, IMiS/Net throughput was improved by as much as 30%, but the biggest difference is seen what used in parallel mode as tests show that data throughput increased by as much as 80%.
*Imaging Systems internal laboratory tests

- Issues concerning performance of IMiS/Net in a parallel multi-user environment addressed and solved
There where some issues reported using IMiS/Net in a parallel multi-user mode (using IMiS/Net with IBM Lotus Domino Web Server running agents parallelly). They were all result of expanding platform base from MS Windows (32bit) to UNIX-like platforms such as Linux. Some of these issues were already addressed in maintenence patches of version 3.x. Cumulative patch is now included into 4.1 version of IMiS/Net.

- IMiS/Net unload process is now more secure and thorough
Because some web servers which use IMiS/Net don't always cleanup all the libraries used by IMiS/Net, this was addressed internally in IMiS/Net and now IMiS/Net module takes care of all the cleanup procedure missed by the web servers (e.g. IBM Lotus Domino). This improves web server reliability and minimizes memory usage when IMiS/Net gets unloaded.

- New IMiS/Net nsf template design elements
IMiS/Net as a package now offers improved Lotus Notes template design elements. Temporary name generation is more secure using native system functions for temporary filename generation. Some security issues were addressed concerning possible brute-force algorithms when trying to access objects retrieved by other users which is now virtually impossible.

- IMiS/Net expands supported platforms
IMiS/Net now supports all releases of IBM Lotus Domino servers including latest 6.5.1 on all MS Windows 32 bit and Linux 32 bit operating systems.

- Support of images stored on Lotus Notes Document Imaging Mass Storage Server (LN:DI MSS) has been droped
LN:DI MSS Server connectivity has been dropped in IMiS/Net in v4 version. Since LN:DI MSS is obsolete and discontinued product which has been dropped by Lotus Inc. in 1998, clients moved from this platform and Imaging Systems decided to discontinue providing connectors to this platform.
