Converting TIFF documents to PDF and vice versa with IMiS imaging client

Product:IMiS/Scan, IMiS/Scan++, IMiS/View, IMiS/View++
Release:8.5.1204
Date:09/06/2012

Case: IMiS/View and IMiS/Scan have no straightforward way to convert document format (i.e. there is no Save as command available). Still there are ways you can convert TIFF documents to PDF or vice versa with a little effort. Below there are two methods presented with step by step instructions. Note that these methods create a copy of the document and digital signatures, if any, are not preserved. Also, when annotations are used in TIFF documents, copy of a document with merged redactions is created, if user has no rights to see under the redactions. Other annotation types are not copied, but can be merged when using of the second method send by email.

Description:

The following two methods describe step by step how to convert a TIFF document to PDF. Similarly you can also convert PDF to TIFF.

I.) Using Clipboard:
1. open a TIFF document and select all pages in tree view (via Edit\Select All menu command, Ctrl+A shortcut or mouse cursor)
2. copy document pages to clipboard (via Edit\Copy menu command, Ctrl+C shortcut, toolbar button or through popup menu on tree view).

3. create new document menu (via File\New menu command, Ctrl+N shortcut or toolbar button), then
4. make sure File format setting in Document Settings panel is set to "Adobe PDF file (*.pdf)" (see screenshot below),
5. paste pages from clipboard (via Edit\Paste menu command, Ctrl+V shortcut, toolbar button or through popup menu on tree view).

6. save PDF document to a preferable location on a file system (via File\Save And Close menu command, Ctrl+Q shortcut or toolbar button)

II.) Using Send by email
1. open TIFF document and make sure File format setting in Preferences dialog is set to "Adobe PDF file (*.pdf)" (via Tools\Preferences.. menu command or toolbar button). Note that this setting is not only used by Send by email feature, but also represents the default format for new documents. If you change this setting just for document conversion, be sure to set it back to previous value when finished.

2. send document by email (via File\Send.. menu command, Ctrl+M shortcut or toolbar button)

3. TIFF is converted to PDF attachment in a new mail opened by default email client. Attachment can now be sent by email or saved to a preferable location on the file system. In the screenshot below IBM Lotus Notes is used as a mail client.
